TopicImplicit Bias: Conscious Decision Maker: Becoming Aware of Your Inner Storyteller

    Program Description:

Did you know workplace bias loss cost is projected at $64 billion annually? When it comes to biases, we must understand that in the absence of details, our unconscious minds will fill in the gaps with information based on our lived experiences and that of others.

In this session, participants will learn that we all have inner storytellers-or biases that should not be exclusively viewed as good or bad. Instead, we need to become more conscious of whether the story being told is still relevant, helpful, and positive.

    Learning Objectives:

      • Discover What Implicit Bias Is: Through thought-provoking discussions and thought exercises, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of what implicit bias is, how it develops, and its implications on our everyday interactions.
      • Understand Various Types of Biases: We will explore the most common types of biases that wreak havoc in the workplace, including race, gender, age, and more. We can begin to dismantle the stereotypes that hinder progress and foster empathy and understanding.
      • Breaking Down Biases to Understand: We will dissect biases to identify their real-world impact in the workplace, community, and home. By shining a light on these hidden narratives, we can take proactive steps towards creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.
      • The Effects of Implicit Bias on Self and Others: Implicit bias not only affects those on the receiving end but also influences our own sense of self and worldview. By examining the emotional, psychological, and social consequences of implicit bias, we will empower ourselves and others to break free from their limitations.
      • How to Address Implicit Bias as an Individual and Organization: As a Whole Knowledge alone is not enough; action is crucial for fostering meaningful change. We will explore effective strategies to address implicit bias on both an individual and organizational level.

Topic: Making the Leap to HR Leadership

      Date: October 28, 2024

      Time: 12 noon - 1 pm

      Zoom link:

      https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81063635221?pwd=zhIUg0RQCxpDwvmGG28ko9lp24KVex.1

Program Description: As HR professionals, we know how to put our hands on the keyboard and manage benefits plans, recruit and onboard new talent, and deploy learning and development programming that addresses the emerging skills needs of our workforce. As we grow in our careers, however, we are increasingly asked to sit at the epicenter of decision-making, helping our partners in the business articulate a talent and people strategy in the context of our organization's strategic objectives. These are exciting opportunities, but they require us to work and define our value in very different ways. This shift from subject matter expert to strategic HR leader is about more than being assigned direct reports. It's about rethinking the way you create value for the organization. No matter where you sit in the organizational hierarchy, if you're looking to grow your role and your impact, I'm asking conference delegates to lean into 3 Leadership Shifts in the way they work: (1) from communicating tasks to communicating context and vision; (2) from concentrating decision rights to delegating decision rights; and (3) from leading through authority to leading through influence. Participants will leave this session with a clear understanding of what it means to make the leap to leadership as well as a tactical toolkit for articulating their value within the organization and positioning themselves as strategic leaders.

Learning Objectives: Through a combination of content presentation and case study review, learners will come away with a firm understanding of the following: The employee engagement implications of communicating tasks versus communicating vision The impact of concentrating versus delegating decision rights on your impact in the organization The difference between leading through authority and leading through influence.

Topic: From Anti-Hero to Superwoman: How Women Can Rewrite Their Money Story & Embrace Their Investing Superpowers

      Date: November 14, 2024

      Time: 11 am – 12 noon

Program Description: “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me.” In her wildly popular anthem Anti-Hero, Taylor Swift lays bare her anxieties and self-doubt. You might wonder how someone so talented and so celebrated could feel so insecure? And yet, success is not a proxy for confidence which is why so many successful and accomplished women lack confidence when it comes to money. In fact, in Fidelity’s 2021 Women and Investing Study, only 33% of women see themselves as investors and only 42% feel confident in their ability to save for future milestones like retirement. What does that mean for the large majority of women who will become their family’s sole financial decision maker? Or the trillions of dollars of wealth that women control? Sarah Charles explores what contributes to women’s lack of confidence when it comes to investing, and how women can overcome the disconnect between their anxieties and their strengths, so that they can embrace their full financial power.

Learning Objectives: Have a better idea of what drives their Anti-Hero behavior when it comes to money; Reframe their perspective around risk; develop more confidence when it comes to investing.
