In today’s workplace, a lack of ownership has become a problem. Many Leaders make mistakes and feel blaming others or living in false narratives is an appropriate solution. Leaders are finding they lack a strategic plan months after being given a project and explain that the expected results are not possible because they weren't given the needed vision. In examples like these, when leaders struggle to take ownership of their work, the impact is far-reaching: results aren’t achieved, forward progress doesn’t occur and those being led aren't inspired toward continuous growth and development. This all can change though when a leader looks at their leadership as something they own and realize that Human Resources is the value added strategy partner that can get them there! In this learning experience, HR professionals will learn the power of ownership and how to coach to it, through an effective time management model, how to plan strategically, and how to model the results for those they lead and serve with a foundational basis of partnership coaching. This includes helping leaders step into the arena of courageous leadership through the process.

The material connects to and aligns with the Leadership and Strategy/Business Leadership functional areas through the focus of a process of owning our strategy. Learners will have the opportunity to go step by step through this process in order to both use it and coach the process to others. Additionally, a process for owning our metrics will be shared, with three essential pieces to implement into any metrics driven initiative. The tool, the Ladder of Accountability, will also be discussed with a demonstration of how to use the tool as a coaching strategy to help someone step into accountability and empowerment. Different communication styles will be addressed so learners can explore the value of flexing approaches when using these strategies.

  • 1.      Learners will explore the power of setting and owning your reality and the connection of accountability.
  • 2.      Learners will discuss methods for owning versus spending our time.
  • 3.      Learners will discuss coaching leaders on how to plan strategically with an ownership mindset.
